Lockers

Unfortunately we do not have enough lockers in the first grade wing for every child to have their own locker.  Some children will have to share.  To try to make it fair, each month the kids take turn sharing a locker with a friend or having their own locker.  For example, some kids shared a locker in September.  Then, different kids shared a locker in October.  In November, we will switch again.  It's easy to switch; we just switch the locker magnets with names on them.  I often find that first graders WANT to share lockers, when you would think they would want their own! That usually changes in winter, when it becomes quite a challenge to share a locker.

On early release days, we combine snack and lunch, and we enjoy SNUNCH In our classroom.

Breakfast Alert!

I am hoping that everyone will take a moment this weekend to check your child's lunch account on paypams.com.  Several of my children are buying BREAKFAST each day, and I want to make sure they have your permission.  Many parents have received a surprisingly LARGE bill and didn't know their children were purchasing breakfast.  If you need an account number for paypams.com, I think I can help, and the office can definitely help (799-7339).

Little Red Riding Hoood

In our classroom, we often practice reading through Reader's Theatre. All of the kids will get lots of chances to be in these little plays.  We don't really do costumes, as reading is the focus.

Reading bags

The children have started to bring home reading bags for homework. The bags should come back and forth to school each day, regardless of whether the children have read the books or not.  The kids have reading group several times a week, and need the bags for reading group.  Thanks!

BOOK FAIR

BOOK FAIR SPECIFICS
We will be visiting the Book Fair this Thursday (10/16) during our Media Center block at 2:00pm.  You are invited to join us and help your child shop for books.  If you intend to send money with your child, please send it in an envelope with your child’s name and a little note explaining what you expect him/her to spend the money on.  There are lots of other merchandise as well as books that are always very attractive to children.  Please talk with your child before they leave for school about how you would like them to spend the money.  Of course, there are other opportunities for you to visit the book fair with your child, and many people choose not to send money at all.
